Dental Technology

We have incorporated the latest in dental technology to provide the safest, most comfortable, and most convenient care possible. We use a variety of advanced technology, including less obvious pieces of equipment like electric hand-pieces that are faster and prepare a tooth much smoother and with greater comfort than traditional air-driven hand-pieces and our Single Tooth Anesthesia (STA) delivery system. The STA uses a computer to provide anesthesia without that “fat lip” feeling. Administration via the STA is so comfortable that many have no idea that they just received anesthesia. A very common question is, “When are you going to give me the shot?”

Amistad Dentistry uses only digital radiography. This technology emits only 5% of the radiation that traditional X-rays require. No chemicals are needed for processing and the picture will appear on the monitor within seconds, so both the patient and dentist can review the image together.

Surveys show that the number one thing people dislike most about dentistry is going to the dentist. We took that survey to heart and it is our goal to minimize the number of trips our guests make to our office. We were the first office in Del Rio to bring CAD/CAM (CEREC) to the world of dentistry. This technology allows a patient to receive restorations, which used to take multiple trips to the dentist, in a single visit. Traditional dentistry requires a minimum of two visits to the dental office for those who need a crown. They would have to wear a temporary crown for two to three weeks while a lab would fabricate their final crown. Sometimes temporaries would come off and the patient would need to come back between the appointments. Now we can make a beautiful and incredibly strong crown and deliver it to the patient in about 90 minutes from start to finish. No messy impressions and the restorations are entirely metal-free and have a better fit.

“The CEREC machine is definitely the biggest “WOW!” factor in the office. Guests get a kick out of watching their restorations being milled. After hundreds of restorations placed, I’m still wowed by the accuracy of this technology,” says Dr. Taylor.

Amistad Dentistry is the only office within a 150-mile radius that offers Cone Beam radiographs (GALILEOS). The GALILEOS gives us the ability to view the jaws in 3D. It takes approximately 14 seconds for the scan, but provides an incredible amount of information that is used to plan and place implants (completely guided), diagnose pathology, and find hidden canals during root canal therapy.
